DAREEN ABBAS
Dareen Abbas is a visual artist who lives and works in Belgium.
My work is concerned with time, not clock time, but deep time, geological time, and the slower durations through which stories are transmitted, distorted, or lost. I'm interested in how time itself becomes political: who gets to narrate at what pace.
Within these questions, I make forms, on paper, in sculpture, in video, that hold this weight through affect rather than argument.
Dareen Abbas trained in etching and engraving in Damascus before continuing her studies at ERG (École de Recherche Graphique) in Brussels, Belgium. Since then, her work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Taipei Biennial, and she has undertaken residencies such as the WIELS residency in Brussels.
